Basic Pizza Dough
Maggie Beer's Basic Pizza Dough Recipe is a quick and simple recipe to make homemade pizza bases from ingredients found in every pantry.
Step 1: Place the yeast, 1 teaspoon of the flour, caster sugar and warm water into a small bowl or jug and whisk together well. Allow to stand in a warm place until the yeast activates, this will take roughly 5–10 minutes.
Step 2: Place the remaining flour and salt into a large mixing bowl, make a well in the centre, then pour in the yeast mixture and slowly combine, gradually bringing more and more of the dry mixture into the centre until a stiff dough forms.
Step 3: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and drizzle the dough with olive oil. Knead the olive oil into the dough until the dough is shiny and bounces back to touch, this will take approximately 5 minutes.
Step 4: Lightly grease a large bowl, place the dough in and cover with cling film. Leave bowl in a warm place to rise for half an hour before rolling out as a pizza base.
